Preschool ministry and the healthy church

It feels so good to find out that somebody agrees with you. It makes it even sweeter when that somebody has no idea who you are and has written a book about the subject!
In his blog post this morning at http://relevantchildrensministry.blogspot.com/2010/03/preschool-ministrya-sign-of-church.html , Dale Hudson made the statement that “Preschool ministry is a vital sign of a healthy church”.
This statement needs to be on every church staff member’s bulletin board in big letters!
The preschool teachers of a church I recently served in were very upset when promotion day came and they realized that about 95% of their class was being promoted out. They were not any happier to find out that there were no kids promoting into their class.
Dale says in his post “If your preschool ministry is growing, it means you are reaching young families.” That church was not attracting young families so the preschool class had stalled. If no young families come into the church, the children’s ministry and youth ministry may be looking at the same fate.
The pastor of the church I am currently at has stated from the pulpit that this year we, as a church, will be concentrating on reaching the children in the community. This effort will have a special push toward reaching the preschool age group. Our church of about 30 members is positioning itself to grow by reaching out to the young families with young children.
Dale has co-authored a book called “Turbo Charged Preschool Ministry “. I haven’t purchased or read it yet, but have put it on my list of books to buy soon. After reading it, I will post my thoughts on it here.
