Be a Comet for Christ!

Do you know what a comet is? Have you ever seen a comet?
Unless you were using binoculars or a telescope, you have probably never seen a comet except in a movie or on TV. Even though comets can be very large and move very fast, it is very difficult to see one without some help.
A comet is made of mainly ice and dust – some people call them “dirty snowballs”. A comet can be anywhere from a mile to several hundred miles wide. A comet moves around the sun in an orbit that lasts from a few years to many thousands of years. Comets travel as slow as 700 miles an hour, but as they get closer to the Sun they will sometimes move over a million miles an hour. At a million miles an hour, you could go around the entire world in less than two minutes! A comet consists of two main parts — the nucleus and the tail. The nucleus is the solid, smaller part of the comet and the tail is the trail of ice and dust that is seen behind it. When you look at a comet, most of what you see is the trail behind it.
A comet is a lot like a Christian should be.
As the comet draws closer to the Sun it gains strength and power. As we, as Christians, get closer to the Son of God – Jesus – we gain more strength from Him.
As the comet streaks across the sky it leaves a trail of pieces of itself behind. As Christians we should be leaving a trail behind us as we go through life. We should be leaving a trail of people that we have influenced by telling them about Jesus or helping them grow in Christ.
Let’s make an effort to draw closer to our source of power – Jesus, and leave a big trail behind us by telling everyone we meet about Jesus.
Let’s be a “comet for Christ”!
