Almost all of the balloon creations you see are made from a combination of a few basic twists. These twists are described and shown in video format (QuickTime) on this page. Using these basic twists, you will be able to create many different things simply varying the porportions of the bubbles and how the twists are combined. The videos will show the twist in normal speed, slow motion, and again in normal speed.

Basic Twist - This is the basis for all other twists. The balloon is pinched and then twisted 3 or 4 times. It does not matter which way the balloon is twisted, only that it is always twisted in the same direction. Basic twist video

Three Bubble Lock Twist - The 3 Bubble lock twist is used to connect 3 bubbles together. Three bubbles are made with the 2nd and 3rd bubble normally being the same size. The 2nd and 3rd bubbles are then twisted together. This locks the 3 bubbles in place.

The “basic dog” is made using three of these twists. The first set makes the ears and nose, the second set forms the neck and front legs, and the final set forms the body and rear legs (the leftover end is the tail). 3 bubble twist video

The Bird Body Twist – Sometimes called the “3 bubble roll through”, it is used in a variety of creations. It is used in places where a single bubble does not give enough ‘body’ look. It can be used to make something look fatter or more bulky. As the name implies, it is also used in making a bird figure.

To make the bird body twist, you first twist 3 bubbles that are the same size. These bubbles should be at least 1.5 inches long because anything shorter is difficult to impossible to push a bubble through.

The first and second bubbles are then twisted together. (Note that this is different from the 3 bubble lock twist where bubbles 2 and 3 are twisted.)

While separating the opening created by twisting bubbles 1 and 2 together, bubble number 3 is pushed through. I have found it easiest to separate the bubbles with my fingers while pushing the 3rd bubble through with my thumbs. Bird body twist video
